Dr. Dawn Moore, has been practicing for over 20 years and attended the University of Pittsburgh for both undergraduate and graduate school. She recently completed her Clinical Doctorate and studied the effects of co-articulation and augmented feedback on final /r/ production in children using a portion of her own program "Let's Hear It For R! Her 20 years of experience and practice include the schools of North Carolina for 15 years as both a clinician and Lead SLP, where she was recognized as a Teacher of Excellence at the NC Exceptional Children’s Conference, a honor not often bestowed on SLPs. She began expanding into private practice serving children 12 months to 18 years in eight years ago. She has supervised many SLPs and Speech Assistants she has employed as well as students in varying educational programs. She regularly presents for various state speech conventions, county speech departments, and local Universities.
Her main interests include articulation and phonological therapy (including apraxia), specifically /r/, using her own program Let's Hear It For /R/! and Barbara Hodson's Cycles for Phonology. She is a Certified Orofacial Myologist which allows her to fully evaluate the function and structure of the orofacial complex including the tongue, lips, jaw, and palate. Through her extensive experience in articulation and phonological disorders, she has applied this knowledge to childhood apraxia of speech, an over-diagnosed but rare motor speech disorder. By combining approaches from phonology and motor planning and the implementing a home program, she has successfully treated children with this difficult disorder.
I remember attending speech therapy as a second-grader at my elementary school. My love for my Speech Language Pathologist is still strong today as she not only helped me to correct my /r/ and /s/ errors, but led me down a path of helping children succeed with their own communication. As a mother of a child requiring speech therapy, I understand the need for quality speech therapy services in Burlington and the surrounding areas. Our practice is dedicated to child-centered therapy and maximum family involvement in all therapy settings."
